Well guys I found myself in the same position this morning as Topaz and her mom. Driving into work this morning I came across a cat that had been knocked by a car and left for dead.

I stopped and put him in the back of my car. He was clearly in shock with blood all over and from a quick look he had a broken jaw. I took him to the nearest Vet which was 5 minutes down the road only to find that they were closed (it was 7am after all) and their emergency number goes to a fax. I wondered if I should fax them the cat.

I called Jason to find me another vet in town and lo and behold the next Vet had no Vet’s on duty and they had to come all the way from Stellenbosch to Cape Town. They would only be there at 08:30am. I had no way of knowing that the little ginger ball laying in the back of my car would make it as he was gurgling on his own blood.

Finally I called my own Vet (an hour away) and they said to bring him in right away. I rushed back home and heard the first meow as I pulled into the Vet. I had never been as happy as I was to hear that meow. They had me bring him in, wrapped in a towel and gave him the once over. No chip and no collar so we have no idea who his owners are. There I had not one, but two vets hovering over him.

It seems he has no other broken bones that we could see without x-rays, but his jaw would require surgery to repair. They stabilised him and told me that if his owner is not found they will probably be putting him down. He is a beautiful ginger cat and is in great condition. My heart just could not stand the thought of having him put down because an owner wasn't around to cover the costs.

I have had them put Ems (that’s what I’m calling him for now) on my account. They won’t be charging normal Vet rates, but as it is the bill may come up to R 4000.00 for her surgery. Guys I really need your help. I cannot afford R4000.00 to help Emma and as of right now am not even sure I’ll be able to give him a home, but if any of you can contribute a R50.00 or so towards his care I would really appreciate it. I am not sure exactly how much the bill will be just yet as I am waiting on the Vet to call me with his complete diagnoses of Ems. He is at Fourways Vet in Sun Valley if anybody is interested.

The full story with updates can be found on our forum.

Just to note initially we thought Ems was a girl and named him Emma in case you feel a bit lost while reading the discussions.
